Great Highland Bagpipe Training Course (Practice Chanter – Elementary) GHB/Chanter-E 2024-01

Band is holding a Great Highland Bagpipe Training Course (Practice Chanter – Elementary) between September 2024 and December 2024. This training course belongs to the entry level of the Great Highland Bagpipe (GHB) training, Corps’ members are eligible to participate in (GHB) training and event(s) provided by Band – Bagpipe section upon completion of training course - 1. (Practice Chanter – Elementary) and 2. (Practice Chanter – Competent). Course detail as follows:

Time

(Location 1) 1500 hours to 1630 hours,

 

 

(Location 2 and online lesson) 1900 hours to 2030 hours.

 

Assessment

Practical exercise/assessment will be provided within course schedule, in which

 

 

every student will be examined by the Band Sergeant Major (BSM) or personnel

 

 

assigned by the Band Sergeant Major (BSM).

 

Objective

1. General overview of bagpipe music and the instruments,

 

 

2. Learning basic fingering techniques (with practice chanter),

 

 

3. Trying to play basic bagpipe tunes.

 

Target

Corps’s members. (Potential instructor(s) could attend the course only after the

 

 

nomination made by Band Sergeant Major (BSM) is being approved. )

 

Uniform

Civilian.

 

 

(Corps Polo T-shirt or Squadron T-shirt, trousers and sport shoes. )

 

Class size

12 per class. (Minimum size of 3. )

 

Course fee

HK$ 250.0/ person, students having fulfilled the eligibility criteria (over 80% of

 

 

   attendance) will be subsidized by CHQ and be reimbursed HK$150 regardless of

 

 

   the assessment result. ( Transportation, handout(if applicable)/sheet music and

 

 

   administration fee included. )

 

Rendezvous

Location 1 - Hong Kong Adventure Corps High Island Training Camp

 

 

Embus (PM) – 1330 hours#1 at Exit D, MTR Kowloon Tong Station.

 

 

 

 

 

Location 2 - The YMCA of Hong Kong King's Park Centenary Centre

 

 

Assembly - 1900 hours SHARP at the main entrance of training venue, no

 

 

transportation will be arranged.

Remarks

1. Fees and places of enrolled participants is non-refundable and non-

 

 

     exchangeable.

 

 

2. Unless with special approval granted, all attendees should strictly follow the

 

 

     training procedures and arrangement (transportation included) provided by

 

 

     the course. Please choose the corresponding option in the E-application form

 

 

     if no transportation is needed. No partial exemption on the fixed course fee

 

 

     (e.g. transportation fee) will be made due subsided item(s) as a whole.

 

 

3. Course students should always wear proper uniform/clothing, failure to do so will

 

 

     result in suspension of taking class(es).

 

 

4. When attending the course, participants should prepare own music instrument –

 

 

     GHB practice chanter (no specific model requirement on the instrument). The

 

 

     course in-charge could help purchasing one practice chanter for the student if

 

 

     there is any difficulty in preparing own instrument. (Reference: HK$ 450/piece,

 

 

     Wallace Standard Plastic/Poly Practice Chanter, limit purchase to 1 piece per

 

 

     student)

 

 

5. The Hong Kong Adventure Corps Certificate of Achievement – Great Highland

 

 

     Bagpipe Training Course (Practice Chanter – Elementary) will be awarded upon

 

 

     completion of course requirement and assessment.

 

 

6. Certificate holder is eligible in taking the Great Highland Bagpipe Training

 

 

     Course (Practice Chanter – Competent) without the entrance exam.

 

 

7. Cadet handbook is required when attending training course (Cadets only).

 

 

8. This course is eligible for the HKAYP Bronze Award or Silver Award or Gold Award

 

 

     Skill Section activity, please contact respective UU Leader or CHQ for

 

 

     details.

 

 

9. The course will be cancelled if enrolment is insufficient (E.g. less than 3 persons

 

 

     per course).

 

 

10. Class arrangement is subject to change depending on the latest situation of the

 

 

     weather and venue arrangement. Details of the latest arrangement are

 

 

     available at HKAC website ( http://hkac.org/ ).

11. Course candidate(s) should report to rendezvous point on time, there will be

 

 

     NO waiting for late-comers.
